Blackberry Activation Procedures To Connect To Blackberry Enterprise Server
For Wireless Stipend Users
- Once an individual is approved for a Wireless Device Stipend he/she may purchase a Blackberry device from a cellular carrier. Approved BlackBerry devices are available on the Telecommunications website http://cellular.uconn.edu/ as well as a list of cellular service providers that provide State of Connecticut discounts. It is the responsibility of the customer to be certain it is provisioned correctly with voice and data service or just data service.
- The employee’s department must fill out a Blackberry Activation Request Form (created especially for the Stipend) to have the individual’s Blackberry activated on the Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES). FRS coding will be requested for billing the monthly Blackberry Support Charge to the Department.
- A representative from Telecommunications will contact you once activation can take place. Requests may take 24-48 hours for activation.
- If Telecommunications does the activation, the individual will be able to wait, in most cases, while the activation is being done.
- If there are problems with the activation and the carrier needs to be contacted to check possible provisioning errors the individual will have to make the contact since Telecommunications would not have access to the individual’s account.
- If an individual downloads applications that cause a problem with UConn’s supported functions (email, contacts and calendaring), re-activation of the device may have to take place and a fee will be assessed.
- If the individual’s wireless service is cancelled or changes to a standard cell phone or to a PDA/Smartphone, the department is responsible for notifying Telecommunications so the individual can be removed from the Blackberry Enterprise Server. This will free-up the license the individual was using as well as remove the support charge from the departmental billing.
